Competition Rules and Regulations
The 1st Xiangyang Beethoven International Competition (hereinafter Competition) will be held in Xiangyang, China from August 4th to 9th, 2020.
The Competition is open for pianists regardless their citizenship and nationality. The age limit of participants must be not younger than 16 and not older than 32 years inclusive at the date of the opening ceremony of the Competition (4th August, 2020).
The Xiangyang Beethoven International Piano Competition consists a preliminary selection and 3 rounds: 1st round, 2nd round, and Final round.
No more than 30 participants will be selected to participate in the 1st round of the Competition.
No more than 15 participants will be selected to participate in the 2nd round.
No more than 6 participants will be selected to participate in the 3rd round (Final).
1st Round: Free choice of music of not more than 15 minutes.
2nd Round: Free choice of music of not more than 20 minutes.
Final Round: Free Choice of music of not more than 30 minutes, which must include one piano work of Ludwig.Van.Beethoven.
The repertoire can not be played twice at different stages, and shall be all played from memory.
In special cases, by decision of the jury, a larger number of participants can be admitted to the next round of the Competition.
All Competition pieces must be performed by heart. The program of the Competition cannot be changed during the Competition.
Each participant is free to decide the order of his/her pieces during the performance.
The jury reserves the right to refrain from awarding a prize altogether or to divide a prize. The decision of the jury is final and indisputable.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds of the Competition are open to public.
The order of appearance of participants will be determined by a random draw and will be kept till the end of the Competition.
All rights to recording and broadcast of the rounds of the Competition and the final concerts of the winners (as also to the sale and distribution of the forgoing materials) belong to the Competition Committee; participants will not be compensated.
All the finalists of the Competition are obliged to give a gratis performance on the Closing Ceremony and the concert of the Laureates of the Competition, as well as other concerts organized by the Competition contributing to its promotion with no financial reimbursement.

The completed application form should be attached with documents listed below:
The photocopy of the passport;
Biography (in English);
One high resolution artistic photo (of 2Mb minimal size) for use in the Competition print materials;
1 letter of recommendation (reference) provided by their teacher, or any well-known musicians;
Copy of the admission fee payment order. No application will be considered without payment confirmation document.
It is optional, but highly recommended that the applicant sends us a link of his/her video performance. Participants who passed the Preliminary selection will be informed via e-mail. The results of Preliminary selection will be announced on the website of the Competition on 1st May, 2020.

The admission fee is £80 (UK Sterling), non-refundable for the participation in the Competition, if the application is made before 1st Feb.2020.

Hotel and Flight
We provide free 4 stars hotel single room and free food and drink for each candidate during the whole period of the competition.
Notice: Google search does not show the Chinese National airlines. It only takes no more than 1.5 hours flight from Beijing to Xiangyang.
Candidates should arrive at Beijing airport, our competition Beijing team member will be waiting at Beijing airport and guide the candidates hand by hand to take either the national airline that flies to Xiangyang, or the high speed railway to Xiangyang. After arriving at Xiangyang, our competition team member will be waiting at the station and take the candidates straight into the hotel.
The Competition Committee will cover the National Travel cost (from Beijing to Xiangyang) to all selected candidates.
The Prize money contains a total amount of 100,000 RMB (around 14,000 USD as in November, 2019) . It will be paid to the winners from the Chinese Currency, then transfers into other currency according to their banks. The prize-winners shall pay income tax according to the law. Contestants shall assign the following rights and interests free of charge to the Organizing Committee: The copyrights to performances and all audiovisual recordings of the preliminary round, main competition and prize-winner’s concert (Assignment of the above-mentioned copyrights to performances includes reproducing, offering for sale, transferring, storing in computer and making available over the Internet; public replaying, exhibiting, displaying and licensing; cable and wireless dissemination by ground transmitters or satellite; live broadcasting and replaying via radio or TV).
The Competition has the right to reject an application which does not meet the regulations of the Competition. Participants representing false information are subject to disqualification.
An application signed by the candidate indicates that he/she accepts all the conditions of the Competition.
Information for foreign participants
After receiving the invitation, foreign participants should apply to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their countries for a Chinese Visa.
During the whole Competition the Committee provides foreign participants with hotel and food.
The Competition does not cover the expenses of accompanying persons.
As of the moment of publication all the rules of participation are correct. However, the organizing committee of the Competition reserves the right of certain adjustments not later than 2 months before the launch of the Competition.
